Childhood obesity is the new emerging epidemic in India, with 14.4 million reported cases. Along with obesity, inadequate nutrition intake, eating disorders have increased the risk of diseases in children.

Obese children are at increased risk of hypertension, osteoarthritis, high cholesterol and triglycerides, Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, gallbladder disease, respiratory problems, emotional disturbances, and some cancers. 

Tackle obesity:

  1. Increase physical activities.
  2. Have energetic play dates.
  3. Limit junk food intake.
  4. Include fruits and vegetables in their diet.
  5. Avoid packed snacks and beverages like soda.
  6. Do not force-feed the infants and toddlers.
  7. Teach them about food labels.
  8. Keep healthy snacks like peanuts and other dry fruits at their reach.
