9.5 crore students were provided Food Security Allowance amid COVID-19 lockdown

The Parliament began the 18-day Monsoon Session from September 14, and the ministry of education informed Lok Sabha about the Food Security Allowances (FSA) provided to over 9.5 core students, while the nation was fighting with COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is not possible to provide hot cooked meal under the prevailing circumstances, owing to COVID-19, State Government and UT Administrations are advised to provide Food Security Allowance (FSA) comprising of food grains, pulses, oil, etc (equivalent to cooking cost) to all eligible children till such time their schools are closed due to aforesaid pandemic", said Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, the Union Education Minister.

According to the data shared by the ministry, crores of students from states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar, were equipped with FSA.
