The Future Of Experiential Learning | Ashutosh Jhureley |
The Future Of Experiential Learning | Ashutosh Jhureley |

What is Experiential Learning? It’s pretty easy to guess the definition of experiential learning. It’s learning through experience. But to understand how this happens, we have to understand how reflection plays a role in this process. We are meaning-making creatures. When something happens to us, particularly something negative, our brain wants to make sense of it. Yes, we got an F on a test - but why? Our invention didn’t work - but why? After we experience something, we have the opportunity to learn from that experience through reflection. Sometimes, this reflection is done consciously. We ask ourselves, “What actions led to me missing the basket?” or “What contributed to my success in budgeting this year?” But this reflection does not have to be conscious or purposeful for experiential learning to happen. Experiential learning begins early in life. The first stage of cognitive development, as theorized by Jean Piaget, is the sensorimotor stage. It lasts from birth to age two. During this stage, babies begin to realize that actions have consequences, even if they don’t have language to articulate it. They learn how to walk after falling over and over again, trying new things until they hold themselves up long enough to walk across the room. Experiential learning activities for kids The activities for Experiential learning for kids needn’t be hefty or challenging to follow. They must be full of life skills to let the child grasp the concept in an experimental form. Few activities to begin with: • Potting a plant and watching its growth. • Traveling places, museums, historical monuments and let the kids explore. • Let them do clay modeling and make anything their creativity allows • Use dice for teaching numbers and playing various games. • Allow them to look up for a less known country or region on an atlas or globe. • Let them use blankets or bedsheets to set up a makeshift tent. • Team exercises of treasure hunt. • Problem-solving through identifying the utility of an object in a given situation. • Grocery shopping and teaching them numbers, colors, and remembering stuff. There are so many activities that can let the kids learn through experiential learning. One needs to let their mind wander and develop their senses. As an eCommerce, Retail & Supply Chain expert, Mr Ashutosh Jhureley, Co-founder of Moonshot Jr plays a key role in guiding students to lead on eCommerce platforms, where they can launch their products and services. This knowledge includes both frontend and backend processes, supply chain management, customer relationship, and more.

Experiential Learning and 21st Century Skills | Ms Gitanjali Dutta |
Experiential Learning and 21st Century Skills | Ms Gitanjali Dutta |

Experiential learning is a process of learning from real-life experiences. Where students practice “learning by doing”. As we go deep into it, we find that it’s a very old but very effective process of learning. Experiential learning connects the kid with the real-life world. We can take examples from the Ramayana or the Mahabharata where you can find such practices. It is what I believe that when you learn from your own experiences, the knowledge you get from it, is everlasting. Experiential learning activities for kids The activities for Experiential learning for kids needn’t be hefty or challenging to follow. Effects of Experiential Learning | Meenakshi Mehra |
Effects of Experiential Learning | Meenakshi Mehra |

Experiential learning is based on learning things by experiencing, experimenting, creating, interacting, and practically indulging in simple activities in the surroundings. Specific characteristics of experiential learning: • It is suitable for all age groups and helps kids who are full of curiosity and have excellent learning potential. • It is usually very flexible and doesn’t have a rigid structure. Fewer rules, more learning. • It utilizes safe, simple activities that require little adult supervision. • Kids are free to explore nature and can go on according to their own pace and comfort. • Awareness through their surroundings through creative learning, imaginative playing, fun activities like dance, music, painting, or travel or excursions. The kids answer the questions like did they notice that, why or how that occurred, if it happens in real life, and where they could utilize it. The Importance of Experiential Learning 1. Experiential learning enables children to pursue their own areas of interest and to work through problems as they arise in a real-life situations. They are not simply working out what 2 + 2 equals because the teacher says it’s important, they are working out how many toys they have, how many biscuits the dog eats, or how many pairs of shoes they need to pick up. A common complaint from both primary school and high school-age children is that they don’t see the point of some of the work they are being asked to. Experiential learning demonstrates the practical uses of maths, science and other learning areas. 2. Experiential learning can also be important for letting kids experience the reality of ‘failure’ and how to overcome setbacks and challenges. They can feel pride when they eventually find a way to do something because they learned to do it themselves, not because someone told them the answer. 3. Experiential learning is collaborative and enables children to work out their own unique strategy (with some support), rather than following a set formula to arrive at an answer. They will be more likely to think creatively in the future, rather than assuming that all problems have “right” and “wrong” answers and “right” and “wrong” ways of getting there. Ms. Meenakshi Mehra, Principal of Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Bangalore is the proud recipient of the Best Principal / Centre Manager for Euro kids. She conducts regular teacher training & parenting workshops and has volunteered with reputed NGOs for Child welfare & UNICEF.

Experiential Learning- A More Effective Tool | Ms Tarang Gaur|
Experiential Learning- A More Effective Tool | Ms Tarang Gaur|

What is experiential learning? As the name suggests, experiential learning is the process of learning through experience. Experiential learning theory was initially proposed by psychologist David Kolb who emphasised how experiences influence the learning process. Kolb defined experiential learning as "the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience. Knowledge results from the combinations of grasping and transforming the experience." In his experiential learning theory, Kolb described two different ways of grasping experience: • Concrete Experience • Abstract Conceptualisation He also identified two ways of transforming experience: • Reflective Observation • Active or reflective experimentation What are the benefits of experiential learning? Over the years, experiential learning has proven to have a wide range of benefits that contribute to a child's development. Students can better grasp concepts Students may struggle to grasp concepts that don't pertain to the “real world.” With experiential learning, students are given the opportunity to apply data and ideas in a real-world situation where they too play an active role. As the student interacts with the information, it becomes real to them. Students have the opportunity to be more creative Experiential learning is one of the best ways to teach creative problem-solving. With real-world content, children learn that there are multiple solutions to challenges, and they are encouraged to seek their unique solution to hands-on tasks. Students have the opportunity to reflect By incorporating concrete experiences with abstract concepts, and then reflecting on the outcome, students engage more regions of their brain and make stronger connections with the material. They are encouraged to analyse how their actions affected the issue, and how their outcome may have varied from other students’. This analysis helps them better understand how the concepts learned can be applied to other, varied circumstances. Students’ mistakes become valuable experiences As students engage in hands-on tasks, they will find some approaches work better than others. They discard the methods that don’t work, but the act of trying something and then abandoning it – ordinarily considered a “mistake” – becomes a valuable part of the learning process. Students learn not to fear mistakes, but to value them. Teachers often observe improved attitudes toward learning Experiential learning is designed to engage students' emotions as well as enhancing their knowledge and skills. Playing an active role in the learning process can lead to students experiencing greater gratification in learning. Experiential learning focuses on the learning process for the individual. One example of experiential learning is going to the zoo and learning through observation and interaction with the zoo environment, as opposed to reading about animals from a book. Tarang Gaur, Principal, AVM, Bhiwani, is an inspired educationist, an innovative and visionary leader and a skilled CBSE Master trainer with over 21 years of experience in Senior Secondary schools. She is a motivated, hardworking and resourceful leader who encourages creativity, collaboration and respect.

Gamification of learning: Making Education more Interactive for the Students Episode 3
Gamification of learning: Making Education more Interactive for the Students Episode 3

Gamification can be used in many different contexts. Businesses often apply gamification to employee training, recruitment, evaluation, and organizational productivity. Other uses include physical activity, voter engagement, and customer loyalty programs. The point of gamification is to inspire users to engage with the content. Especially with tasks that are not enjoyable, such as an in-depth safety training program and compliance training, gamification can be a great tool to motivate and engage the user. Some examples of game mechanics used in gamification are: 1. Goals Complete the task and get a reward, such as a badge or points. 2. Status Users increase their level or rank through completing activities. Leader boards show who is ‘winning’ and inspire users to work harder to compete. 3. Community Users are paired or put in groups to solve problems, complete activities, or otherwise achieve an objective. 4. Education Tips, tricks and quizzes are given to the user throughout the process. 5. Rewards As mentioned above, points and badges are common, and useful, rewards. Other rewards could be discounts, coupons, or gift cards. This fuels the user’s motivation and keeps engagement high. Successful gamification will tap into the user’s intrinsic motivation, such as becoming more skilled at their job, while offering an extrinsic motivation, such as rewards, points and badges. We have Dr. Meenakshi Narula, Principal of Shemford Futuristic K-12 School, Auraiya to tell us about ”A common problem during this period of learning revolves around online classes. How can we make online classes more interactive and engaging for the students?” Dr Narula is a multifaceted, versatile person who has command in teaching logistics of Science, the nitty-gritty of language and the technical concepts of IT while focusing on sustainable development goals.
